A. Read and try to find out why Nazma and Joynul are quarrelling. – পড় এবং নাজমা ও জয়নুল কেন ঝগড়া করছেন তা বের করার চেষ্টা কর।

One day Joynul looked for work in his village and in the next village. But his luck did not favour him. He was angry-angry with everybody. When he was back home, Nazma failed to serve his meal. That made him shout at Nazma.

একদিন জয়নুল তার নিজ গ্রামে এবং পাশের গ্রামে কাজ খুঁজছিলেন। কিন্তু ভাগ্য তার পক্ষে ছিল না। তিনি রাগান্বিত ছিলেন সবার প্রতি রাগান্বিত। যখন তিনি বাড়ি ফিরে এলেন, নাজমা তাকে খাবার দিতে ব্যর্থ হলেন। এটা তাকে নাজমার প্রতি চিৎকার দিতে বাধ্য করল।

“I had a severe headache and a fever,” said Nazma. নাজমা বললেন, “আমার প্রচণ্ড মাথাব্যথা ও জ্বর ছিল।”

Joynul was trembling in anger. জয়নুল রাগে কাঁপছিলেন।

“The cooking is almost done. Wash your hands and feet. I’ll bring the food soon,” she said. নাজমা বললেন, “রান্না প্রায় শেষ। হাত-পা ধুয়ে এসো। আমি শিগগিরই খাবার আনব।”

“Soon! It will take ages!” Joynul shouted wildly. “শিগগিরই! এটা অনন্ত সময় নেবে।” জয়নুল উচ্ছৃঙ্খলভাবে চিৎকার করলেন।

“What do you do the whole day at home? I work and earn money to run the family. You can’t even cook my meals in time!” “তুমি সারা দিন বাড়িতে কী কর? আমি কাজ করি এবং সংসার চালানোর জন্য টাকা উপার্জন করি। তুমি এমনকি সময়মতো আমার খাবারটাও রান্না করতে পার না।”

“I don’t earn money, but I also run the family. I do all the work at home-cooking, cleaning, washing, husking, taking care of the children everything.” said Nazma. “Remember, you work for money and my work in the home can make the family stick together and make it happy. So both types of work are equally important.”

“আমি টাকা উপার্জন করি না, কিন্তু আমিও সংসার চালাই। আমি বাড়িতে সব কাজ করি রান্না, ধোয়া-মোছা, চাল প্রস্তুত করা, বাচ্চাদের দেখাশোনা- সবকিছু।” নাজমা বললেন। “মনে রেখ, তুমি টাকার জন্য কাজ করো আর আমার বাড়ির কাজ আমাদের পরিবারকে এক সুতোয় বেঁধে রাখতে পারে এবং সুখী করতে পারে। সুতরাং দু ধরনের কাজই সমানভাবে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ।”

Never before has Joynul thought about these things. He feels guilty. Never before has he looked at Nazma with so much admiration and gratitude.

এসব ব্যাপারে জয়নুল আগে কখনোই চিন্তা করেননি। তিনি নিজেকে অপরাধী মনে করেন। তিনি আগে কখনোই এত বেশি শ্রদ্ধা ও কৃতজ্ঞতার চোখে নাজমাকে দেখেন নি।

2. Get each member’s name, age and work. (প্রতিটি সদস্যের নাম, বয়স এবং কাজ সংগ্রহ কর।)

3. Do the family members share each other’s work? Describe who shares what, where and who with. (পরিবারের সদস্যরা কি একে অপরের কাজ ভাগাভাগি করে? কে, কী, কোথায় এবং কার সাথে ভাগাভাগি করে বর্ণনা কর।)

Our Next-door Family

আমাদের পাশের বাড়ির পরিবার

Man is a social being. It is impossible for him to live alone in the world. He has to live with other people around him. The cooperation among the people is very necessary. The people who live beside or around our living place are called neighbours.

I live in Dhaka in a flat with my parents. The next-door family is our neighbour. It is family of five members. Mr Hossain and Mrs Hossain live next to us with their three children.

Mr Hossain is a government employee in a very important sector. Mrs Hossain is a Headmistress of a govt. school. Mr Hossain is 50 years old and Mrs Hossain is 45 years old. Their eldest son, Rakib is studying in Dhaka University. He is 21 years old. Their youngest son, Shakib studies at Dhaka College. He is 17 years old. Their only daughter Naina studies at Dhaka City College. She is 16 years old. They are very gentle and well behaved. They are very simple in their way of life.

The family members share each other’s work. They always help, Mrs Hossain. They always do household work. Sometimes Naina cooks special dishes. Their sons sometimes go to market. Thus they get help from their children. They help their children in various ways. They are happy with what they have.

Mrs And Mrs Hossain visit our flat on Friday and have a chat with my parents. They invite us to their family celebrations. We also do the same.

It is really good that we have such good neighbours. We have very good understanding and relation.

মানুষ সামাজিক জীব। পৃথিবীতে তার জন্য একাকী বাস করা অসম্ভব। চারপাশের অন্য লোকের সাথে তাকে বাস করতে হবে। মানুষের মধ্যে সহযোগিতা একান্ত প্রয়োজন। যারা অন্য লোকের পাশে বাস করে বা বাসস্থানের চারপাশে বাস করে তারাই প্রতিবেশী।

আমি ঢাকায় মা-বাবার সাথে একটি ফ্ল্যাটে বাস করি। আমার পরবর্তী দরজার প্রতিবেশীই আমার প্রতিবেশী। এটি পাঁচ সদস্যের একটি পরিবার। জনাব হোসেইন এবং বেগম হোসেইন তাদের তিন সন্তানকে নিয়ে আমাদের পাশেই থাকেন। জনাব হোসেইন সরকারের একজন গুরুত্বপূর্ণ বিভাগের কর্মকর্তা। বেগম হোসেইন সরকারি বিদ্যালয়ের প্রধান শিক্ষিকা। জনাব হোসেইন ৫০ এবং বেগম হোসেইনের বয়স ৪৫ বছর। তাদের বড় ছেলে রাকিব ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে অধ্যয়ন করছে। তার বয়স ২১ বছর। তাদের ছোট ছেলে, সাকিব ঢাকা কলেজে পড়ে। তার বয়স ১৭ বছর। তাদের একমাত্র কন্যা নায়না ঢাকা সিটি কলেজে অধ্যয়ন করে। তার বয়স ১৬ বছর। তারা ভদ্র ও নম্র চরিত্রের অধিকারী। তাদের চলার পথ খুবই সাদাসিধা।

পরিবারের সদস্যরা একে অপরের কাজ ভাগাভাগি করে। তারা সর্বদা বেগম হোসাইনকে সাহায্য করে। তারা সর্বদা বাড়ির কাজ করে। মাঝে মাঝে নায়না বিশেষ খাবার রান্না করে। তাদের পুত্ররা মাঝে মাঝে বাজার করে। তাদের সন্তানরা তাদের একইভাবে সাহায্য করে। তারাও বিভিন্নভাবে তাদের সন্তানদের সাহায্য করেন। তারা যেভাবে আছে তারা সেভাবেই সুখী।

জনাব ও বেগম হোসেইন শুক্রবার আমাদের ফ্ল্যাটে আসেন এবং মা-বাবার সঙ্গে গল্প করেন। তারা তাদের পরিবারের উৎসবে আমাদের আমন্ত্রণ জানান। আমরাও তা করি।

এটা সত্যি ভালো যে আমাদের এমন ভালো প্রতিবেশী আছে। আমাদের মধ্যে খুব ভালো সমঝোতা ও সম্পর্ক আছে।
