It is easy to understand now that the global warming and climate change are caused by humans on earth. If we make least use of energy, the earth will be least polluted. The golden rule is, ‘Avoid machines as much as possible’. If your family has a car, use it less and walk to the shops. Walking and running are much more fun than sitting in a car. You may use bicycles too. You can save energy by changing your lifestyle. For example, you can often avoid the air-conditioning in summer and use hand fans instead.
এখন এটি সহজেই বোঝা যায় যে, পৃথিবীতে বৈশ্বিক উষ্ণতা এবং জলবায়ুর পরিবর্তন মানুষ দ্বারাই সংঘটিত হয়ে থাকে। আমরা যদি শক্তির ন্যূনতম ব্যবহার করি, তাহলে পৃথিবীও সামান্য দূষিত হবে। মূলনীতি হলো, ‘যতদূর সম্ভব যন্ত্র পরিহার করো’। যদি তোমার পরিবারে একটি গাড়ি থাকে, তাহলে এটি কম ব্যবহার করো এবং দোকানে হেঁটে যাও। গাড়িতে বসে থাকার চেয়ে হাঁটা এবং দৌড়ানো অনেক বেশি মজার। তুমি সাইকেলও ব্যবহার করতে পারো। তুমি জীবনযাপন পদ্ধতি পরিবর্তন করে শক্তি সঞ্চয় করতে পারো। উদাহরণস্বরূপ, তুমি গ্রীষ্মকালে প্রায়ই শীতাতপ নিয়ন্ত্রক পরিহার করতে পারো এবং এর পরিবর্তে হাত পাখা ব্যবহার করতে পারো ।
You can also use solar energy. It is free and more environment friendly. You can use energy-saving bulbs in your room. If you make a garden, you can grow much of your own food. Do you know that if you eat fewer meat and dairy products, you can reduce greenhouse gas output? You can also save the environment by reducing, reusing and recycling the things you use. The most important idea is if you don’t buy so many things in the first place, you don’t need to reuse or recycle them.
তুমি সৌর শক্তিও ব্যবহার করতে পারো। এটা বিনামূল্যের এবং বেশি পরিবেশ বান্ধব। তুমি তোমার কক্ষে শক্তি সঞ্চয়ী বাতি ব্যবহার করতে পারো। যদি তুমি বাগান করো, তবে তুমি নিজের খাদ্যের অনেকটাই উৎপাদন করতে পারবে। তুমি কি জানো যে, তুমি যদি অল্প পরিমাণ মাংস এবং দুগ্ধজাত খাবার খাও তাহলে তুমি গ্রিনহাউস গ্যাস এর নিঃসরণকে কমাতে পারবে? তুমি যেসব জিনিস ব্যবহার করো সেগুলোর ব্যবহার কমিয়ে, পুনঃব্যবহার করে এবং পুনঃউৎপাদন করেও পরিবেশকে রক্ষা করতে পারো। সবচেয়ে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ধারণা হলো তুমি যদি প্রথম পর্যায়ে এত জিনিস না কেনো, তাহলে তোমার এগুলো পুনঃব্যবহার এবং পুনঃউৎপাদনের প্রয়োজন হবে না।
You can also save energy by turning things off when you don’t use them. People often leave lights, heating, air-conditioning, computers, TVs and gas burners on when they do not use them. Thus, they waste a lot of energy. Turning them off saves money too!
তুমি যখন কোনো জিনিস ব্যবহার না করো, তা বন্ধ রেখেও শক্তি সঞ্চয় করতে পারো। মানুষ প্রায়ই বাতি, তাপমাত্রা বাড়ানোর যন্ত্র, শীতাতপ নিয়ন্ত্রক যন্ত্র, কম্পিউটার, টেলিভিশন ও গ্যাসের চুলা চালু রাখে যখন তারা সেগুলো ব্যবহার করে না। এভাবে তারা অনেক শক্তির অপচয় করে। এগুলো বন্ধ রাখলে অর্থ সাশ্রয়ও হয়!
So, you can tackle climate change and live comfortably. There is plenty you can do. If we all work sensibly, we can save our lovely planet.
অতএব, তুমি জলবায়ু পরিবর্তনের মোকাবেলা করতে পারো এবং আরামে বাঁচতে পারো। তুমি অনেক কিছুই করতে পারো। যদি আমরা সবাই সচেতনভাবে কাজ করি, তবে আমরা আমাদের সুন্দর গ্রহকে রক্ষা করতে পারবো।

C. The people below are taking care of their home and car, but they are doing many things that can damage the environment, especially our water. Identify the activities which you think may damage our environment. In the picture, we can see women are throwing waste from their house to keep it clean. But these thrown away wastes are making our environment dirty. Because, the wastes are thrown here and there and are being kept openly. All these filthy things are emitting bad smells, and thus, creating odour pollution. Vehicles are running in the road and emiting smoke and producing carbon dioxide, which pollute our air. One man is washing his car on the road, which is making the road dirty. Another man is throwing waste into the canal water. It pollutes our water. We can see woods are being unloaded. It means that trees are being cut by the people. This is a great threat to our environment. Because, trees produce oxygen and receive carbon dioxide. If the trees are cut down, our environment will be imbalanced. We can also see a man who is carrying plastic bag that harms our wildlife. So, we can see that all the works done by the people in the picture may damage our environment.
(ছবিতে আমরা দেখতে পাচ্ছি যে, মহিলারা তাদের বাড়ি পরিষ্কার রাখার জন্য সেখান থেকে ময়লা ফেলছে। কিন্তু এই ফেলে দেয়া আবর্জনাগুলো আমাদের পরিবেশকে নোংরা করছে। কারণ, এই ময়লাগুলো যেখানে সেখানে ফেলা হচ্ছে এবং খোলা জায়গায় রাখা হচ্ছে। এইসব ময়লা-আবর্জনা দুর্গন্ধ ছড়াচ্ছে, এবং এভাবে, গন্ধ দূষণ সৃষ্টি করছে। যানবাহন রাস্তায় চলছে এবং ধোঁয়া ও কার্বন ডাই-অক্সাইড উৎপন্ন করছে, যা আমাদের বায়ুকে দূষিত করে। একজন লোক রাস্তার ওপর গাড়ি পরিষ্কার করছে, যা আমাদের রাস্তাকে নোংরা করছে। আরেকজন লোক খালের পানিতে আবর্জনা ফেলছে। এতে পানি দূষিত হয়। আমরা দেখতে পাচ্ছি কাঠ নামানো হচ্ছে। এর মানে মানুষ পাছ কাটছে। এটি আমাদের পরিবেশের জন্য মারাত্মক হুমকির স্বরূপ। কারণ, গাছ অক্সিজেন উৎপাদন করে এবং কার্বন ডাই-অক্সাইড গ্রহণ করে। যদি গাছপালা কেটে ফেলা হয়, তবে আমাদের পরিবেশ ভারসাম্যহীন হয়ে পড়বে। আমরা আরও দেখতে পাচ্ছি, একজন লোক পলিথিনের ব্যাগ বহন করছে যা আমাদের বন্যপ্রাণীদের জন্য ক্ষতিকর। কাজেই, আমরা দেখতে পাচ্ছি যে, ছবিতে লোকদের করা সব কাজই আমাদের পরিবেশের ক্ষতি করতে পারে।)
