Answer: I see a beautifully designed quilt with floral and leaf patterns. (আমি ছবিতে একটি সুন্দর নকশা করা কাঁথা দেখতে পাচ্ছি, যেখানে ফুল ও পাতার ডিজাইন রয়েছে।)

 2. What is it called? (এটিকে কী বলা হয়?)
Answer: It is called Nakshi Kantha. (এটিকে নকশি কাঁথা বলা হয়।)

 3. Have you seen it before? Where? (তুমি কি আগে এটি দেখেছ? কোথায়?)
Answer: Yes, I have seen it before. It is commonly found in villages, markets, and in many homes. It is a traditional art of Bengal. (হ্যাঁ, আমি এটি আগে দেখেছি। এটি গ্রামে, বাজারে এবং অনেক বাড়িতে পাওয়া যায়। এটি বাংলার একটি ঐতিহ্যবাহী শিল্প।)

 4. What do we do with it? (আমরা এটিকে কী কাজে ব্যবহার করি?)
Answer: We use it as a quilt or blanket for sleeping. It is also used for home decoration. (আমরা এটি কম্বল বা কাঁথা হিসেবে ব্যবহার করি। এছাড়াও, এটি ঘরের সাজসজ্জার জন্যও ব্যবহৃত হয়।)

C. Now, read the text to know about Nakshi Kantha. (এখন, নকশি কাঁথা সম্পর্কে জানার জন্য এই লেখা পড়ো।)

Nakshi Kantha is a kind of embroidered quilt. The name was taken from the Bangla word, ‘naksha‘, which means artistic pattern. It is a kind of traditional craft and is said to be indigenous to Bangladesh and West Bengal in India. The art has been practised in rural Bengal for centuries. The name Nakshi Kantha became popular after the poet Jasimuddin’s poem ‘Nakshi Kanthar Math’ was published in 1929.
Traditional kanthas are made for family use. Old or new cloth and thread are used to make these quilts. Mymensingh, Jamalpur, Rajshahi, Faridpur, Bogura, and Jashore are most famous for this craft. Now, it is produced commercially. You can find them in many expensive handicraft shops in cities. The quilts are now in great demand because of the colourful patterns and designs embroidered on them.

নকশি কাঁথা এক ধরনের সূচিকর্ম করা কাঁথা। এর  নাম  বাংলা  শব্দ  ‘নকশা’ থেকে নেওয়া হয়েছে, যার অর্থ শৈল্পিক নকশা। এটি এক ধরনের ঐতিহ্যবাহী শিল্প এবং এটি বাংলাদেশ ও ভারতের পশ্চিমবঙ্গের স্থানীয় কারুশিল্প হিসেবে পরিচিত। এই শিল্প শতাব্দীর পর শতাব্দী গ্রামবাংলায় প্রচলিত রয়েছে। নকশি কাঁথা নামটি জনপ্রিয়তা লাভ করে কবি জসীমউদ্দীনের কবিতা ‘নকশি কাঁথার মাঠ’ ১৯২৯ সালে প্রকাশিত হওয়ার পর।
ঐতিহ্যবাহী কাঁথাগুলো সাধারণত পারিবারিক ব্যবহারের জন্য তৈরি করা হয়। পুরোনো বা নতুন কাপড় ও সুতা দিয়ে এই কাঁথাগুলো তৈরি করা হয়। ময়মনসিংহ, জামালপুর, রাজশাহী, ফরিদপুর, বগুড়া এবং যশোর এই শিল্পের জন্য সবচেয়ে বিখ্যাত। এখন এটি বাণিজ্যিকভাবে উৎপাদিত হচ্ছে। এগুলো শহরের অনেক দামি হস্তশিল্পের দোকানে পাওয়া যায়। কাঁথাগুলো এখন অনেক বেশি চাহিদাসম্পন্ন, কারণ এতে বিভিন্ন বর্ণিল নকশা ও সূচিকর্ম করা ডিজাইন থাকে।

Answer: I like Nakshi Kantha because it has beautiful patterns and embroidery. It is also a part of our traditional art. (আমি নকশি কাঁথা পছন্দ করি কারণ এতে সুন্দর নকশা ও সূচিকর্ম থাকে। এটি আমাদের ঐতিহ্যবাহী শিল্পেরও একটি অংশ।)

H. Write a Paragraph describing how the Nakshi Kantha is made. (নকশি কাঁথা কীভাবে তৈরি হয় সে সম্পর্কে একটি অনুচ্ছেদ লেখো।)
Answer: Old or new cloth and coloured thread are needed to make a Nakshi Kantha. First, the cloth is folded properly. Then, different designs and patterns are drawn on it. After that, the embroidery is done using colourful threads. Finally, the edges are sewn to give it a complete look. Nakshi Kantha is a beautiful handicraft that represents our culture and tradition.
পুরাতন বা নতুন কাপড় এবং রঙিন সুতা নকশি কাঁথা তৈরির জন্য দরকার। প্রথমে কাপড়টি ভালোভাবে ভাঁজ করা হয়। তারপর এতে বিভিন্ন নকশা ও প্যাটার্ন আঁকা হয়। এরপর রঙিন সুতা দিয়ে সূচিকর্ম করা হয়। অবশেষে, চারপাশ সেলাই করে কাঁথাটিকে সম্পূর্ণ করা হয়। নকশি কাঁথা আমাদের সংস্কৃতি ও ঐতিহ্যের একটি সুন্দর হস্তশিল্প।
