A. Listen and read these short conversations.

1. Fahim: Can I borrow your pen, please? আমি কি তোমার কলমটি ধার নিতে পারি?
   Tamim: Yes, of course you can. Here you are. হ্যাঁ, অবশ্যই পার। এটি নাও।
2. Radif: Could you please help me with my maths? তুমি কি আমার অংকে সাহায্য করতে পারবে?
   Rahin: Sorry, I can’t. I’m not good at maths. দুঃখিত, আমি পারব না। আমি অংকে ভালো নই।
3. Sister: Would you turn the television off? I’m doing my homework. তুমি কি টেলিভিশনটি বন্ধ করবে? আমি আমার পড়াশোনা করছি।
   Brother: Sorry, I didn’t notice that. Please go on with your studies. দুঃখিত, আমি সেটা খেয়াল করিনি। পড়াশোনা চালিয়ে যাও।

 

B. Complete these dialogues using suitable words

1. A: Can you lend me your English book for a day? তুমি কি এক দিনের জন্য তোমার ইংরেজি বইটি আমাকে ধার দিতে পারবে?
   B: Sorry, I can’t. I need to read it tonight. দুঃখিত, আমি পারব না। আজ রাতে আমাকে সেটা পড়তে হবে।
2. A: Could you give me 50 taka? তুমি কি আমাকে ৫০ টাকা দিতে পারবে?
   B: Sorry, I can’t. I have only 20 taka with me. দুঃখিত, আমি পারব না। আমার কাছে মাত্র ২০ টাকা আছে।
3. A: Could you give me your calculator, please? তুমি কি দয়া করে আমাকে তোমার ক্যালকুলেটর দিতে পারবে?
   B: Yes, of course. Here you are. হ্যাঁ, অবশ্যই। এই নাও।
4. A: Can you get me a notebook and a ballpen from the stationer’s? তুমি কি দোকান থেকে আমাকে একটি নোটবুক এবং একটি বলপেন এনে দিতে পারবে?
   B: Of course, I can.
5. A: Can you put my box in the car, please? তুমি কি দয়া করে আমার বাক্সটি গাড়িতে রাখতে পারবে?
   B: Yes, of course. I will. হ্যাঁ, অবশ্যই। আমি রাখব।

 

C. Make requests using the clues

1. You want someone to help you with the washing. তুমি কাউকে কাপড় ধোয়ার কাজে সাহায্য করতে বলছ।
   Ans: Can you help me with the washing, please? তুমি কি আমাকে কাপড় ধোয়ার কাজে সাহায্য করতে পারবে?
2. You want someone to give you change for a one hundred taka note. তুমি কাউকে ১০০ টাকার নোটের ভাঙতি দিতে বলছ।
   Ans: Can you give me change for a one hundred taka note, please? তুমি কি আমাকে ১০০ টাকার নোটের ভাঙতি দিতে পারবে?
3. You want someone to wait a minute. তুমি কাউকে এক মিনিট অপেক্ষা করতে বলছ।
   Ans: Can you wait a minute, please? তুমি কি এক মিনিট অপেক্ষা করতে পারবে?
4. You want someone to carry your bag. তুমি কাউকে তোমার ব্যাগটি বহন করতে বলছ।
   Ans: Can you carry my bag, please? তুমি কি আমার ব্যাগটি নিয়ে যেতে পারবে?
5. You want someone to call you a rickshaw. তুমি কাউকে তোমার জন্য একটি রিকশা ডাকতে বলছ।
   Ans: Can you call me a rickshaw, please? তুমি কি আমার জন্য একটি রিকশা ডাকতে পারবে?
