The children had now nowhere to play. There were no gardens around and the roads were busy and crowded. After school they used to go round the high wall and talk about the beautiful garden inside. “How happy we were there!”, they said to each other.
অনুবাদ: বাচ্চাদের তখন খেলার কোনো জায়গা ছিল না। আশপাশে কোনো বাগান ছিল না এবং রাস্তাঘাট ছিল ব্যস্ত ও জনাকীর্ণ। বিদ্যালয় শেষে তারা উঁচু দেয়ালটি ঘুরে ঘুরে দেখত এবং ভেতরের সুন্দর বাগান সম্পর্কে কথা বলত। “আমরা সেখানে থাকলে কতই না মজা হতো!”, তারা একে অপরকে বলত।
Q1: What do you think the children would do now? – বাচ্চারা এখন কী করবে বলে তোমার মনে হয়?
Ans: I think now the children would make a plan to enter into the garden. (আমার মনে হয় এখন শিশুরা বাগানে ঢোকার পরিকল্পনা করবে।)
Then came the spring. And all over the country there were flowers and there were birds. Only in the garden of the Giant it was still winter. Here no birds were singing and no flowers blossoming. There were only snow and frost and north wind in it.
অনুবাদ: তারপর বসন্ত এলো। আর সারা দেশেই ছিল ফুল, ছিল পাখি। কেবল দৈত্যের বাগানেই তখনও শীত ছিল। সেখানে কোনো পাখি গাইছিল না, কোনো ফুল ফোটেনি। সেখানে কেবল ছিল তুষার, হিম আর উত্তরে বাতাস।
“I cannot understand why the spring is so late in coming,” said the Giant. He was sitting at the window of his big castle and looking out at his cold, dry, lifeless garden. “I hope there will be a change in the weather.”
অনুবাদ: -“বসন্ত আসতে এত দেরি হচ্ছে কেন আমি বুঝতে পারছি না,” দৈত্য বলল। সে তার বিরাট দুর্গের জানালার পাশে বসে ছিল এবং তার ঠান্ডা, শুষ্ক, প্রাণহীন বাগানের দিকে তাকিয়ে ছিল। “আশা করি আবহাওয়ার পরিবর্তন হবে।”
But neither spring nor summer came to his garden. – কিন্তু বসন্ত বা গ্রীষ্ম কোনোটিই তার বাগানে আসে নি।
B. Discuss in groups and write an answer to this question: – দলবদ্ধভাবে আলোচনা করো এবং এ প্রশ্নের উত্তর দাও:
What happens in a garden in winter? – শীতকালে বাগানের ভেতর কী ঘটে?
Ans. In the winter the garden looks cold, dry and lifeless. Usually no flowers bloom. (শীতকালে বাগান ঠান্ডা, শুষ্ক এবং প্রাণহীন দেখায়। সাধারণত ফুল ফোটে না।)
C. Suppose you are one of the children who were not allowed to play in the Giant’s garden. In this situation: – ধর তুমি ওই বাচ্চাদের একজন যাদেরকে দৈত্য তার বাগানে খেলার অনুমতি দেয় নি। এ পরিস্থিতিতে:
1. What would you like to tell the Giant? – তুমি দৈত্যকে কী বলতে?
Ans. I would like to request the giant to allow us for playing in the garden. (আমি দৈত্যকে বাগানে আমাদেরকে খেলতে দেওয়ার জন্য অনুরোধ করতাম।)
2. What do you think the Giant would tell you? – দৈত্য তোমাকে কী বলত বলে তুমি মনে করো?
Ans. I think the Giant would allow us to play in the garden- (আমার মনে হয় দৈত্য আমাদেরকে বাগানে খেলার অনুমতি দিত।)
