A. Listen to and read the following words. – নিচের শব্দগুলো মনোযোগ দিয়ে শোনো এবং পড়ো।
shed – ছাউনি
shade – ছায়া
pepper – মরিচ
paper – কাগজ
test – পরীক্ষা
taste – স্বাদ
wet- ভেজা
wait – অপেক্ষা করা
pen – কলম
pain – ব্যথা, যন্ত্রণা
man – মানুষ/পুরুষ
mane – কেশর
A1. Do you notice any difference between the vowel sounds in the words on the left column and the vowel sounds in the words on the right? – তোমরা কি বাম কলামের শব্দগুলোর vowel ধ্বনি ও ডান কলামের শব্দগুলোর
vowel ধ্বনিগুলোর মধ্যে কোনো পার্থক্য লক্ষ করো?
Ans: Yes, we notice that the vowel sounds in the words on the left column are short. On the other hand, the vowel sounds in the words on the right column are long. – হ্যাঁ, আমরা লক্ষ করি যে, বাম কলামের শব্দগুলোর vowel ধ্বনিগুলো সংক্ষিপ্ত বা হ্রস্ব। অন্যদিকে ডান কলামের শব্দগুলোর vowel ধ্বনিগুলো দীর্ঘ।
Listen to and repeat the sounds in Section-A again. আবার বলো। মনোযোগ দিয়ে শোনো এবং সেকশন-A এর ধ্বনিগুলো (sounds)
A2. Read the following sentences first. Notice the underlined words carefully. – প্রথমে নিচের বাক্যগুলো পড়ো। নিচে দাগ দেওয়া শব্দগুলো সতর্কতার সাথে লক্ষ করো।
Then listen to and repeat the sentences pronouncing the underlined words properly using the vowel sounds you just practised in section A. এবার মনোযোগ দিয়ে শোনো এবং এইমাত্র
সেকশন-A তে তুমি যেসব vowel ধ্বনি চর্চা করেছো সেগুলো ব্যবহার করে নিচে দাগ দেওয়া শব্দাবলীর সঠিক উচ্চারণের মাধ্যমে বাক্যগুলো পুনরাবৃত্তি করো।
a. I met Benu and her room-mate in the book store. – বই এর দোকানে বেনু ও তার কক্ষসঙ্গীর সাথে আমার দেখা হয়েছিল।
b. They were buying some papers and pens. – তারা কিছু কাগজ ও কলম ক্রয় করছিল।
c. I remember her friend’s face, but I can’t remember her name. – তার বন্ধুর চেহারা আমার মনে আছে, কিন্তু তার নাম আমি মনে করতে পারছি না।
d. Later, I met them again the same day at the bus station. – পরে, আবার একই দিন তাদের সাথে আমার বাস স্টেশনে দেখা হয়েছিল।
e. They were waiting for some friends to come. – তারা কয়েকজন বন্ধুদের আসার অপেক্ষায় ছিল।
A3. Practise saying the following words. – নিচের শব্দগুলো বলার চর্চা করো।

A4. Read the following sentences. Add ‘e’ to the underlined word in each sentence to make a new word. Now, fill in the blank in the sentence with the new word. One is done for you. – নিচের বাক্যগুলো পড়ো। নতুন শব্দ তৈরি করতে প্রতিটি বাক্যের নিচে দাগ দেওয়া শব্দের সাথে ‘e’ যোগ করো। এবার, নতুন শব্দ দিয়ে বাক্যের খালিঘর পূরণ করো। একটি তোমাদের জন্যে করে দেওয়া হলো।

c. I lost both at the canteen where I ate lunch yesterday. – আমি দুটিই ক্যানটিনে হারিয়ে ফেলেছি যেখানে আমি গতকাল দুপুরের খাবার খেয়েছিলাম।
d. Sam, my friend, was having lunch at the same canteen. – আমার বন্ধু, স্যাম ঐ একই ক্যান্টিনে দুপুরের খাবার খাচ্ছিলো।
e. He was mad at me because I made him go back and look for my things later. – সে আমার ওপর খুব রেগেছিল কারণ পরে আমি তাকে ফেরত যেতে ও আমার জিনিস খুঁজতে বাধ্য করেছিলাম।
