A. Read the conversation to know more about the ‘Morality Shop’. Then answer the following questions. – ‘নৈতিকতার দোকান’ সম্বন্ধে আরও কিছু জানার জন্য কথোপকথনটি পড়। তারপর নিচের প্রশ্নগুলোর উত্তর দাও।

Shahana : Today I’m going to tell you about a new kind of shop, where there will be no shopkeeper. The price of each item or thing will be written on a small piece of paper. This price tag will be attached to the item or items. You will pick an item you like, look at the price tag and put the money in the box kept there. And the thing is now yours.

অনুবাদ: আজ আমি নতুন এক ধরনের দোকান সম্বন্ধে তোমাদের বলতে যাচ্ছি, যেখানে কোনো দোকানদার থাকবে না। প্রতিটি জিনিসের দাম ছোট একটি কাগজের টুকরার ওপর লেখা থাকবে। মূল্য লিখিত এ চিরকুটটি জিনিস বা জিনিসগুলোর গায়ে দেওয়া থাকবে। তুমি তোমার পছন্দমতো কোনো কিছু বেছে নেবে, মূল্য লিখিত চিরকুটটি দেখে সেখানে রাখা বাক্সের মধ্যে টাকা রাখবে। আর জিনিসটা এখন তোমার।

The students are not clear about this kind of shop. They know that a shop always has a shopkeeper. So they are confused. – ছাত্রছাত্রীদের এরূপ দোকান সম্পর্কে ধারণা নেই। তারা জানে যে একটা দোকানে সর্বদাই একজন দোকানদার থাকে। সে কারণে তারা দ্বিধাগ্রস্ত।

Sheela : In that case, someone may take a thing and go away without paying. – এ ক্ষেত্রে যে কেউ একটি জিনিস নিতে পারে এবং টাকা না দিয়ে চলে যেতে পারে।

Shahana : Nobody will do it. If anybody does, it will be stealing. – কেউ এটা করবে না। যদি কেউ এটা করে, তবে এটা চুরি হবে।

Ratul : Who’ll see them stealing? – কে তাদের চুরি করতে দেখবে?

Shahana : Conscience. Do you know what conscience is? OK. There is something in your mind called conscience. It tells you whether your actions are right or wrong. Is stealing a right thing or a wrong thing? – বিবেক। তোমার কি জান বিবেক কী? এটা তোমাকে বলে তোমার কাজটা ঠিক নাকি ভুল। চুরি কি কোনো ভালো কাজ, নাকি খারাপ?

Students : Wrong thing. – খারাপ কাজ।

Shahana : Then your conscience will tell you, “This is a wrong thing. You must not do it.” If you steal or do a bad thing, your conscience will prick you and trouble you. And you will never have your peace of mind. So to be a good and happy person, you should have a clear conscience. – তখন তোমার বিবেক তোমাকে বলে দেবে, “এটা ভুল। অবশ্যই তোমার এটা করা ঠিক হবে না।” তুমি যদি চুরি কর অথবা খারাপ কোনো কাজ করো, তোমার বিবেক তোমাকে দংশন করবে এবং কষ্ট দেবে। আর তুমি কখনোই মনে শান্তি পাবে না। সুতরাং ভালো এবং সুখী মানুষ হওয়ার জন্য, তোমার একটি স্বচ্ছ বিবেক থাকা উচিত।

B. Work in pairs. Ask and answer the following questions. – যৌথভাবে কাজ করো। নিচের প্রশ্নগুলো জিজ্ঞাসা কর এবং উত্তর দাও।

a. What are the advantages and disadvantages of a Morality Shop? – নৈতিকতার দোকান এর সুবিধা ও অসুবিধাগুলো কী কী?

Advantages: There are no bargaining or haggling in buying things. (কোনো দ্রব্য ক্রয় করতে গিয়ে কোনো দরকয়াকষি করতে হয় না।

Disadvantages: Anyone may steal things. (যে কেউ দ্রব্য চুরি করতে পারে।

b. What kind of shop will you prefer- a fixed-price shop or a morality shop? Why? – তুমি কী রকম দোকান পছন্দ করো- নির্দিষ্ট মূল্যের দোকান নাকি নৈতিকতার দোকান?

C. In groups or pairs, discuss and choose the best answer to this question. Then say why you have chosen that answer.  – দলবদ্ধ হয়ে অথবা দুজন দুজন করে আলোচনা করো এবং এ প্রশ্নটির সর্বোত্তম উত্তরটি বাছাই কর। তারপর বলো কেন তুমি এই উত্তরটা বেছে নিয়েছ?

Suppose you are alone in the school yard. Suddenly you find a hundred-taka note lying on the ground. What will you do?

– মনে করো, তুমি বিদ্যালয় প্রাঙ্গণে একা আছ। হঠাৎ তুমি একটা একশ টাকার নোট মাটিতে পড়ে থাকতে দেখলে। তুমি কী করবে?

(a) pick up the money and hand it to the Head Teacher. – টাকাটি তুলে নিয়ে প্রধান শিক্ষকের কাছে হস্তান্তর করব।

(b) pick up the money and quickly put it in my pocket. – টাকাটি তুলে নিব এবং চটজলদি আমরা পকেটে রাখব।

(c) leave the note where it is lying. – নোটটি যেখানে রয়েছে সেখানে ফেলে রাখব

S1: Friend, What will you do if you suddenly find a hundred taka note lying on the ground? (বন্ধু, মাঠে হঠাৎ একটি একশ টাকার নোট পড়ে থাকতে দেখলে কী করবে?)

S2: I will pick up the money and hand it to the Headteacher. (আমি টাকাটা তুলে নিয়ে প্রধান শিক্ষকের কাছে হস্তান্তর করব।)

S1: Tell me why you have chosen the answer. (তুমি উত্তরটি বেছে নিয়েছ কেন তা আমাকে বল।)

S2 It will be unethical and immoral if I put the money in my pocket. And if I leave the note where it is lying, other one may find it and use it for himself/herself immorally. This is why I have chosen the answer. Because of the fact that the Head Teacher can find out the proper person who lost the money and hand it over to him/her. (টাকাটা আমার পকেটে রাখলে অনৈতিক কাজ হবে। আর টাকাটা যেখানে পড়ে আছে সেখানে ফেলে রাখলে অন্য কেউ তা খুঁজে পেতে পারে এবং নিজের জন্য অনৈতিকভাবে ব্যবহার করতে পারে। তাই আমি উত্তরটি বেছে নিয়েছি। কারণ হলো প্রধান শিক্ষক যে ব্যক্তি টাকা হারিয়েছে তাকে খুঁজে বের করতে পারবে এবং তার কাছে তা হস্তান্তর করতে পারবেন।)

Is it possible to open a morality shop in your school?

S1 : Friend, is it possible to open a morality shop in our school? (বন্ধু, আমাদের বিদ্যালয়ে কি নৈতিকতার দোকান খোলা সম্ব?)

S2 : Why not? It is quite possible to open a morality shop in our school. But to do that, we are badly in need of the permission of our honourable Head Teacher. (কেন নয়? আমাদের বিদ্যালয়ে নৈতকতার দোকান খোলা পুরোপুরি সম্ভব। তবে তা করতে আমাদের সম্মানিত প্রধান শিক্ষকের অনুমোদন খুব প্রয়োজন।)

S3 : Besides, we are in need of money to open a morality shop. (এছাড়া নৈতিকতার দোকন খুলতে অর্থের প্রয়োজন।)

S4 : How can we collect money? (আমরা কীভাবে অর্থ সংগ্রহ করতে পারি।)

S5 : We can make a fund. Our monthly subscription can be saved in the fund. (আমরা একটি তহবিল গঠন করতে পারি। আমাদের মাসিক চাঁদা তহবিলে জমা রাখা যেতে পারে।)

S6 : Moreover, we can collect money from school fund, (এছাড়া, আমরা বিদ্যালয় তহবিল থেকে অর্থ সংগ্রহ করতে পারি।)।

S7 : But what things can be stored in the shop? (তবে দোকানে কোন কোন জিনিস রাখা যেতে পারে?)

S8 : Pens, Pencils, geometric box, news print and whiteprint papers, drawing papers, notebooks, story books, novels, poetries, dramas, daily newspaper, magazines, cloth for school uniforms, shoes, socks, mineral water, biscuits, cake. Bread, milk etc. can be stored in the shop. (কলম, পেন্সিল, জ্যামিতির বক্স, নিউজপ্রিন্ট ও হোয়াইটপ্রিন্ট কাগজ, অংকন কাগজ, নোট বই, গল্পের বই, উপন্যাস, কাব্যগ্রন্থ, নাটকের বই, দৈনিক সংবাদপত্র, সাময়িকী, স্কুল ইউনিফর্মের জন্য কাপড়চোপড়, জুতা, মোজা, খনিজ পানি, বিস্কুট, পিঠা, বুটি, দুধ ইত্যাদি দোকানে রাখা যেতে পারে।)

S9 : But as it is a morality shop, things may be stolen. So how can we prevent stealing? (তবে এটি নৈতিকতার দোকান বলে জিনিস চুরি হতে পারে। তাই আমরা-কীভাবে চুরি বন্ধ করতে পারি?)

S10 : I think, all the people are not morally strong. So we should take steps like fitting close circuit cameras inside the shop. (আমি মনে করি, সব লোক নৈতিকভাবে দৃঢ় নয়। তাই দোকানে ক্লোজ সার্কিট ক্যামরা বসানোর মতো পদক্ষেপ গ্রহণ করা উচিত।)

S11: A person must monitor the close circuit cameras through laptop or desktop computer. (একজন ব্যক্তি অবশ্যই ল্যাপটপ কিংবা ডেস্কটপ কম্পিউটারের মাধ্যমে ক্লোস সার্কিট ক্যামেরা তদারকি করবে।)
