A. Read about Ms Shahana Huda. – মিজ শাহানা হুদা সম্বন্ধে পড়।

Shahana’s husband Mr Zamil Huda works in a company office. His firm has a vacant position. On several days he told Shahana, “I want you to apply for the post. But Shahana said, “Please don’t insist. I’m joining the local high school as a teacher.” “What do you find in a teaching job, Shahana? I don’t want you to do it”. Her in-laws were also on his side. Yet Shahana joined the school against the will of the family.

Weeks and months went by. Every day Shahana helps with the household work. Every day she works hard to prepare her lessons. Every day she. goes to school, teaches her students and helps both weak and bright ones. They often come to her in the teachers’ room, in the corridor and even on the road, and talk to her about any academic or personal problems.

Within a year Shahana becomes a very good teacher. Students give her salam wherever they see her. Teachers, even the Head Teacher, admire her.. Parents and other people in the community come to see her at home and at the school and pay her great respect.

One day her husband said, “You’ve opened my eyes, Shahana. Teaching is more than a job. I didn’t know it. Congratulations!”

“Thank you,” she smiled.

“Tell me Shahana, how you could be such a great teacher!” Zamil wanted to know.

“I don’t only teach my subject, I care for my students. I love them. Je myself demonstrate good behaviour and inspire them, to be good. That’s all 1 do,” replied Shahana.

শাহানার স্বামী জনাব জামিল হুদা একটি কোম্পানিতে কাজ করেন। তার প্রতিষ্ঠানে একটি পদ খালি আছে। বেশ কয়েক দিন তিনি। শাহানাকে বলেছিলেন, “আমি চাই তুমি এই পদের জন্য আবেদন কর।” কিন্তু শাহানা বললেন, “দয়া করে আমাকে জোর কর না।” স্থানীয় উচ্চ বিদ্যালয়ে আমি শিক্ষক হিসেবে যোগদান করছি।” “শাহানা, তুমি শিক্ষকতায়। কী খুঁজে পাও? আমি চাই না তুমি এটা কর।” তাঁর শ্বশুরবাড়ির লোকজনও তাঁর পক্ষে ছিল। তারপরও শাহানা পরিবারের সবার মতামতের বিরুদ্ধে বিদ্যালয়ে যোগদান করলেন।

সপ্তাহের পর সপ্তাহ, মাসের পর মাস অতিবাহিত হতে লাগলো। প্রতিদিন শাহানা সাংসারিক কাজে সহযোগিতা করেন। প্রতিদিন তাঁর পাঠ প্রস্তুত করার জন্য তিনি কঠোর পরিশ্রম করেন। প্রতিদিন তিনি বিদ্যালয়ে যান, ছাত্রছাত্রীদের পড়ান এবং দুর্বল ও মেধাবী সবাইকেই সাহায্য করেন। ছাত্রছাত্রীরা প্রায়ই শিক্ষকদের কক্ষে, বারান্দায় আর এমনকি রাস্তায় তাঁর সাথে দেখা করতে আসে এবং যে কোনো শিক্ষাসম্বন্ধীয় বা ব্যক্তিগত সমস্যা নিয়ে। কথা বলে।

বছর খানেকের মধ্যেই শাহানা খুব ভালো একজন শিক্ষিকা হয়ে উঠেন। ছাত্রছাত্রীরা তাঁকে যেখানেই দেখে সেখানে সালাম দেয়। শিক্ষকরা, এমনকি প্রধান শিক্ষকও তাঁর প্রশংসা করেন। অভিভাবকেরা ও সমাজের অন্যান্য মানুষ তাঁকে কি বিদ্যালয়ে কি বাসায় দেখতে আসে এবং তাঁকে গভীর শ্রদ্ধা জ্ঞাপন করে।

একদিন তাঁর স্বামী তাঁকে বললেন, “তুমি আমার চোখ খুলে দিয়েছ, শাহানা।” শিক্ষকতা চাকরির চেয়েও অধিকতর কিছু। আমি এটা জানতাম না। অভিনন্দন!”

“ধন্যবাদ তোমাকে,” তিনি হাসলেন।

“শাহানা আমাকে বলো তো, তুমি কীভাবে এত বড় মাপের একজন শিক্ষক হলে” জামিল জানতে চাইলেন।

“আমি শুধু আমার নির্ধারিত শিক্ষাই দেই না, ছাত্র-ছাত্রীদের যত্নও নেই। আমি তাদেরকে ভালোবাসি। আমি তাদেরকে ভালো ব্যবহার দেখাই এবং তাদেরকে ভালো হতে অনুপ্রাণিত করি। এগুলোই সব যা আমি করি, শাহানা উত্তর দিলেন।

C. In groups or pairs, discuss and write what students, teachers and community people do to Shahana. – ছাত্রছাত্রীবৃন্দ, শিক্ষকগণ এবং সমাজের মানুষ শাহানার প্রতি কেমন আচরণ করে তা দলবদ্ধভাবে অথবা দুজন দুজন করে আলোচনা করো এবং লেখ।

(vi) She herself shows good behaviour and inspires her student to be good. (তিনি নিজেই সদাচরণ প্রদর্শন করেন এবং ছাত্রছাত্রীদের ভালো হতে অনুপ্রাণিত করেন।)
