A. Look at the pictures and discuss in pairs. (ছবিগুলো লক্ষ কর এবং যুগ্মভাবে আলোচনা কর।)

S1: Let’s look at the pictures and discuss about them. (চলো আমরা ছবিগুলো দেখি এবং এদের সম্বন্দ্বে আলোচনা করি।)
S2: Sure! What do you see in the picture No. 1? (নিশ্চয়ই? ১নং ছবিতে তুমি কী দেখছো?)
S1: It’s the cover page of a Bangladeshi passport. (এটা বাংলাদেশের পাসপোর্টের একটি প্রচ্ছদ।)
S2: Why do we need a passport? (আমাদের পাসপোর্ট দরকার হয় কেন?)
S1: In order to go abroad. (বিদেশে যাওয়ার জন্য।)
Now, tell me, what do you see in the picture no. 2? (এখন, আমাকে বল, ২নং ছবিতে তুমি কী দেখছো?)
S2: It’s an immigration room at the airport. (এটা বিমানবন্দরে অবস্থিত ইমিগ্রেশন কক্ষ।)
S1: What are the people doing here? (এখানে লোকজন কী করছে?)
S2: They are standing here to get their passport, visa and departure card checked by an immigration officer. (তারা এখানে দাঁড়িয়ে আছে তাদের পাসপোর্ট, ভিসা ও বহির্গমন কার্ড একজন অভিবাসন কর্মকর্তা কর্তৃক পরীক্ষা করানোর জন্য।)

Ans.
1. A person needs a passport in order to go to a foreign country. (একজন ব্যক্তির বিদেশে যেতে হলে পাসপোর্ট দরকার।)
2. Those booths are for immigration services such as checking the passport, visa and the departure card. ( বুখগুলো অভিবাসন সেবা যেমন- পাসপোর্ট, ভিসা ও বহির্গমন কার্ড পরীক্ষা করার জন্য।)
3. They are standing there to get their passport, visa and departure card checked by the immigration officer. (তারা ওখানে দাঁড়িয়ে আছে তাদের পাসপোর্ট, ভিসা ও বহির্গমন কার্ড অভিবাসন কর্মকর্তা কর্তৃক পরীক্ষা করানোর জন্য।)
4. The persons inside are immigration officers who are checking the passport, visa and departure card of the passengers. (ভেতরের লোকগুলো অভিবাসন কর্মকর্তা যারা যাত্রীদের পাসপোর্ট, ভিসা ও বহির্গমন কার্ড পরীক্ষা করছেন।)
B. Read the text and answer the questions, (অনুচ্ছেদটি পড় ও প্রশ্নগুলোর উত্তর দাও 🙂
Zara’s parents Mrs Jhuma Islam, Mr Mazharul Islam, Zara and Mita, fill in their departure cards and move towards the immigration counter.
জারার পিতা-মাতা মিসেস ঝুমা ইসলাম, মি. মাজহারুল ইসলাম, জারা ও মিতা তাদের বহির্গমন কার্ড পূরণ করে এবং ইমিগ্রেশন কেন্দ্রের দিকে যায়।
Mita stands in front of one of the booths. She hands in her passport and the departure card to the officer.
মিতা একটি বুখের সামনে দাঁড়ায়। সে তার পাসপোর্ট ও বহির্গমন কার্ড একজন অফিসারের হাতে দেয়।
The immigration officer goes through Mita’s passport, visa and the departure card. “Are you travelling alone?” asks the officer. “No. I’m going with my aunt, uncle and cousin,” says Mita.
ইমিগ্রেশন অফিসার (অভিবাসন কর্মকর্তা) মিতার পাসপোর্ট, ভিসা, বহির্গমন কার্ড পরীক্ষা করে দেখেন। “আপনি কি একা যাচ্ছেন?” কর্মকর্তা জিজ্ঞেস করেন। “না, আমি আমার চাচী, চাচা ও চাচাতো বোনের সাথে যাচ্ছি,” মিতা বলে।
“They are right there on that counter.” “তারা ঐ কাউন্টারে আছে।”
“Is this your first visit to Thailand?” “এটি কি থাইল্যান্ডে আপনার প্রথম সফর?”
“Yes.” “হ্যাঁ।”
“How long are you going to stay there?” “আপনি সেখানে কতদিন অবস্থান করতে যাচ্ছেন?”
“Seven to ten days.” “সাত থেকে দশ দিন।”
“Where are you going to stay?” “আপনারা থাকবেন কোথায়?”
“In a hotel.” “একটি হোটেলে।”
The officer is talking as well as going through Mita’s papers. He finds the papers OK. He smiles and stamps her passport. The officer keeps the departure card, and returns the passport to Mita.
কর্মকর্তা মিতার সাথে কথা বলছেন আবার তার কাগজপত্রও পরীক্ষা করে দেখছেন। তিনি সব কাগজপত্র ঠিকঠাক দেখতে পান। তিনি হেসে তার পাসপোর্টে টিকেট লাগান। কর্মকর্তা বহির্গমন কার্ডটি রেখে পাসপোর্টটি মিতাকে ফেরত দেন।
“Have a safe journey.” “যাত্রা শুভ হোক।”
“Thanks.” “ধন্যবাদ।”
Mita waits for her aunt, uncle and Zara on the other side, of the immigration. Once all of them are done they walk towards the passengers’ departure lounge.
মিতা ইমিগ্রেশনের অপর পাশে তার চাচী, চাচা ও জারার জন্য অপেক্ষা করে। তাদের সবার যখন শেষ হয় তখন তারা যাত্রীদের বহির্গমন লাউঞ্জের দিকে হেঁটে যায়।

C. Make a list in the following grid showing what the immigration officer asks and tells Mita, and what Mita says in response. One is done for you. (অভিবাসন কর্মকর্তা মিতাকে কী জিজ্ঞেস করেন এবং বলেন আর মিতা তার উত্তরে কী জবাব দেয় তা উল্লেখ করে নিচের ছকে একটি তালিকা তৈরি কর। একটি তোমাদের জন্য করে দেওয়া হয়েছে।)
