S1: What do you do when you want to know the meaning of a word? (তুমি যখন একটি শব্দের অর্থ জানতে চাও তখন তুমি কী করো?)
S2: When I want to know the meaning of a word, I take out my dictionary, open it and search the word in the dictionary with the first alphabet of that word as it is arranged in an alphabetical order. (আমি যখন শব্দের অর্থ জানতে চাই তখন আমি অভিধান বের করি, এটি খুলি এবং অভিধানে ধারাবাহিকভাবে ঐ শব্দের প্রথম বর্ণ দিয়ে অনুসন্ধান করি।)

S2: A dictionary can help us by providing meaning, pronunciation, parts of speech, synonyms, antonyms and example sentences of a word. (কোনো শব্দের অর্থ, উচ্চারণ, পদ, সমার্থক শব্দ, বিপরীতার্থক শব্দ এবং উদাহরণ বাক্য সরবরাহ করে অভিধান আমাদেরকে সাহায্য করতে পারে।)
A dictionary gives us the meaning /meanings of a word. Example sentences are given to show how the words are used. They also help to make the meaning clear. A word may have more than one meaning. অভিধান আমাদের শব্দের অর্থ/শব্দার্থসমূহ দেয়। শব্দের ব্যবহার দেখাতে বাক্যের উদাহরণ প্রদান করা হয়। এগুলো অর্থ পরিষ্কারভাবে বোঝাতেও সাহায্য করে। একটি শব্দের একের অধিক অর্থ থাকতে পারে।
The word dry (adj) has a number of meanings. Three of them are given here. শুষ্ক (বিশেষণ) শব্দটির একাধিক অর্থ আছে। এখানে তাদের তিনটি দেওয়া আছে।
(i) not wet, not damp, not sticky: The river becomes dry during the summer.
(i) আর্দ্র নয়, স্যাঁতসেঁতে নয়, চটচটে নয়: গ্রীষ্মকালে নদী শুষ্ক হয়।
(ii) with very little rain: I hope the weather remains dry during our picnic.
(ii) খুব অল্প বৃষ্টি: আমি আশা করি আমাদের বনভোজনের সময় আবহাওয়া যেন শুষ্ক থাকে।
(iii) not interesting: His speech was quite dry.
(iii) চিত্তাকর্ষক নয়: তার বক্তৃতা সম্পূর্ণ নীরস/কর্কশ ছিল।
Sometimes the synonyms and antonyms given with the words help to understand the meanings of words. মাঝেমধ্যে সমার্থক ও বিপরীতার্থক শব্দের সাহায্যার্থে শব্দার্থ বুঝতে পারা যায়।
