Class 8 English Introducing a Table of Contents: You get a new book in hand. You see the title of the book and you want to read it. But does the title only give you enough information about what the book is all about? You also find the book divided into a few parts. Suppose you want to read a certain part of the book. Certainly, you will not like to waste time looking for it in the whole book.

A. Look at the table and talk about it in groups. (ছকটি দেখো এবং এ সম্পর্কে দলবদ্ধ হয়ে কথা বলো।)

S1: Do you know what the table is about? (তুমি কি জানো ছকটি কী সম্পর্কিত?)
S2: Yes, it is about a table of contents. (হ্যাঁ, এটি সূচিপত্র সম্পর্কিত।)
S3: How can we read the table? (কীভাবে আমরা ছকটি পড়তে পারি?)
S4: We can read the table by knowing its division and parts. (ছকটির ভাগ ও অংশসমূহ জেনে আমরা ছকটি বুঝতে পারি।)
S5: Yes, 1st phase talks about ‘To the Instructor’, ‘To the Student’ and ‘Acknowledgements’. Notice that the page numbers are given in Roman numerals. C. Read the text and discuss in groups. Then try to find answers to the following questions. (মূল পাঠটি পড়ো এবং দলবদ্ধভাবে আলোচনা করো। তারপর পরবর্তী প্রশ্নগুলোর উত্তর খুঁজে পেতে চেষ্টা করো।)

E. Open the table of contents page of your English Textbook. Work in pairs and find out the answers to the following questions.
