3.2 Stressed Words
• When we speak, some words in a sentence are said a little louder or with more emphasis. These are called stressed words.
• Stressed words help show the important part of the sentence.

1. My family has just moved to this neighbourhood. → “just” is stressed; it tells when something happened.
2. I love to read storybooks. → “love” is stressed; it shows strong feeling.
3. What kind of books do you like? → “kind” is stressed; it asks about your choice.
4. I find science fictions very interesting. → “science fictions” is stressed; it tells favourite kind of book.
5. Will you come to the library tomorrow? → “tomorrow” is stressed; it asks about when.
How to practice:
• Read the sentences aloud, putting extra stress on the bold words.
• This helps understand which part of the sentence is most important.
