It was Sunday. Mita, Zara, Jhuma Islam and Mazharul Islam woke up very early. They quickly got ready and started for Tha Kha floating market. They planned to have breakfast at the market. They reached the market place sharp at 7. The canals were surrounded with coconut palm trees. They hired a boat. The boatman started to row slowly taking them to the centre of the market.
এটি ছিল রবিবার। মিতা, জারা, ঝুমা ইসলাম ও মাজহারুল ইসলাম খুব তাড়াতাড়ি ঘুম থেকে উঠলেন। তারা দ্রুত তৈরি হয়ে নিলেন ও থাখা ভাসমান বাজারের জন্য রওনা হলেন। তারা সকালের নাস্তা বাজারে করার পরিকল্পনা করলেন। তারা ঠিক ৭ টায় বাজারে পৌছলেন। খালগুলোর চারদিকে নারিকেল গাছ দ্বারা বেষ্টিত ছিল। তারা একট নৌকা ভাড়া করলেন। মাঝি তাদেরকে বাজারের মধ্যে নিয়ে খাওয়ার জন্য ধীরে ধীরে দাঁড় বাইতে লাগল।
There were boats everywhere. The sellers were mainly elderly Thai women. Their small boats were laden with bundles of lotus flowers, farm fresh coconuts, fruits, vegetables, local food, and delicious sweets. The sellers and buyers rowed their boats slowly. The sellers displayed their goods for sale and the buyers chose their pick. They could have a little chit-chat as buying and selling was going on.
সব জায়গাতেই নৌকা ছিল। বিক্রেতারা। ছিল মূলত বয়স্কা থাই মহিলা। তাদের ছোট্ট নৌকাগুলো ছিল পদ্মফুলের গোছা, খামারের তাজা নারিকেল, ফল, শাক-সবজি, স্থানীয় খাবার ও সুস্বাদু মিষ্টিতে বোঝাই করা/পরিপূর্ণ। ক্রেতা বিক্রেতারা ধীরে ধীরে তাদের নৌকা বাইছিলেন। বিক্রেতারা তাদের পণ্যদ্রব্য প্রদর্শন করল এবং ক্রেতারা তা থেকে পছন্দের জিনিসটা বাছাই করল। যখন কেনা-বেচা চলছিল, তারা কিছুটা হালকা আলাপ সেরে নিতে পারল।

Ans. The boatman rowed slowly to take the people to the centre of the market. (লোকজনকে বাজারের মাঝখানে নিয়ে যাওয়ার জন্য মাঝি ধীরে ধীরে দাঁড় বাইছিল।)
3. Who were selling goods? How were they selling their goods? (কারা পণ্যদ্রব্য বিক্রি করছিল? তারা কীভাবে তাদের পণ্য বিক্রি করছিল?)
Ans. Mainly, Thai elderly women were selling goods. They were selling goods with their small boats (মূলত বয়স্কা থাই মহিলারা পণ্য বিক্রি করছিল। তারা তাদের ছোট নৌকার সাহায্যে পণ্য বিক্রি করছিল।)
4. What were they selling? (তারা কী বিক্রি করছিল?)
Ans. They were selling bundles of lotus flowers, farm fresh coconuts, fruits, vegetables, local food and delicious sweets. (তারা পদ্মফুলের গোছা, খামারের তাজা নারিকেল, ফল, শাকসবজি, স্থানীয় খাবার ও সুস্বাদু মিষ্টি বিক্রি করছিল।)

Ans. As buying and selling was going on among different people, we can say that it was a noisy atmosphere at the market. (যেহেতু বিভিন্ন লোকের মাঝে কেনা-বেচা চলছিল, আমরা বলতে পারি যে বাজারের পরিবেশ কোলাহলপূর্ণ ছিল।)

The Tha Kha floating market is more traditional with a few tourists visiting than other floating markets. Originally, the Tha Kha floating market used to sit only six or seven days a month depending on the phase of the moon. Nowadays, the trade takes place on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays too. The main buyers here are the Tha Khả natives. People seem to know each other very well. Everyone was seen smiling and calling each other by name. The locals did not notice Mita and others much. They were all busy buying and selling.
অন্যান্য ভাসমান বাজারের তুলনায় থাখা’র ভাসমান বাজারটি বেশি ঐতিহ্যবাহী যেখানে অল্প কিছু সংখ্যক পর্যটক দর্শন করে। মূলত, খাখা বাজারটি চন্দ্রগ্রহণ অনুযায়ী একটি মাসের ছয় বা সাতদিন বসে। আজকাল, শুক্র, শনি ও রবিবারেও কেনাবেচা চলে। এখানকার প্রধান ক্রেতারা থা খা’র স্থানীয় অধিবাসী। লোকেরা একে অপরকে খুব ভাল করে জানে বলেই মনে হয়। প্রত্যেককেই হাসতে দেখা গেল এবং একে অপরের নাম ধরে ডাকতে দেখা গেল। স্থানীয়রা মিতা ও অন্যদেরকে খুব একটা খেয়াল করল না। তারা সবাই কেনা বেচায় ব্যস্ত ছিল।
