A. Read the passage and the dialogue below. – নিচের অনুচ্ছেদটি ও সংলাপটি পড়ো।
It’s Saturday. Mila’s school is open. But Friday and Saturday are father’s weekly holidays. Father sometimes loves to cook special dishes for everybody on Saturdays. It’s 2 o’clock-time for Mila to come back from school. Mother is setting the table. Mila’s two younger sisters are playing in the living room. The doorbell rings. Mila comes in.
অনুবাদ: আজ শনিবার। মিলার বিদ্যালয় খোলা। কিন্তু শুক্রবার ও শনিবার বাবার সাপ্তাহিক ছুটি। মাঝে মাঝে শনিবারে বাবা সবার জন্যে বিশেষ খাবার রান্না করতে পছন্দ করেন। এখন ২টা বাজে- মিলার বিদ্যালয় থেকে ফেরার সময়। মা টেবিল সাজাচ্ছেন। মিলার ছোট দুই বোন বসার ঘরে খেলছে। দরজার ঘণ্টা বাজে। মিলা ভিতরে আসে।
Mila: Hi, Mom! I’m back! Where’s Baba?
Mom: In the kitchen. Today is Saturday, remember?
Mila: Right! Dad’s cooking day! Hi, Dad! What are you cooking today? It smells good!
Baba: It’s ‘moragpolau’, dear, your favourite dish.
Mila: Can I try some?
Baba: No, you can’t. You know the rule, don’t you? Go and wash your hands first.
Mila: Please, Baba. I’m coming soon.
Baba: Ok. Here is your dish.
Mila: Ummm! It tastes so delicious!
অনুবাদ:
হাই, মা। আমি ফিরেছি। বাবা কোথায়?
রান্না ঘরে। আজ শনিবার, মনে আছে?
ঠিক। বাবার রান্নার দিন। হাই, বাৰা। তুমি আজ কী রান্না করছ? ঘ্রাণটা চমৎকার।
‘মোরগ পোলাও,’ সোনামণি, তোমার প্রিয় খাবার।
আমি কি একটু চেখে দেখতে পারি?
না, তুমি পারো না। তুমি নিয়মটা জানো, জানো না? যাও এবং প্রথমে তোমার হাত ধোও।
অনুগ্রহ করে একটু, বাবা। আমি এক্ষুণি আসছি।
ঠিক আছে। এই নাও তোমার খাবার।
উম-ম-ম। এটি অতি সুস্বাদু।
A1. Work with a partner. Ask and answer the following questions. একজন সঙ্গীর সাথে কাজ করো। প্রশ্নগুলো জিজ্ঞাসা করো ও উত্তর দাও।

S2. I usually have it at home. সাধারণত এটি আমি বাড়িতেই খাই।
c. S1. Who prepares it? কে তা তৈরি করেন?
S2. My sister prepares it. আমার বোন তা তৈরি করে।
d. S1. How does it taste? এটি খেতে কেমন?
S2. It tastes awesome! এটি খেতে অসাধারণ।
A2. Practise the conversation in section A with a friend. Remember to use proper stress and intonation (up and down movement of your voice). – A-এর কথোপকথন একজন বন্ধুর সাথে অনুশীলন করো। সঠিক স্থানে জোর ও স্বরভেদ (তোমার গলার স্বরের ওঠা-নামা) ব্যবহারের কথা মনে রেখো।

A3. Fill in the blanks in the following sentences with the words in the box. ছকের শব্দগুলো দিয়ে নিচের বাক্যগুলোর শূন্যস্থান পূরণ করো।
smell – গন্ধ নেওয়া see – দেখা look – দেখা know – জানা/ চেনা like – পছন্দ করা want – চাওয়া।

d. I can —- a butterfly near the flowers.
Ans. I can see a butterfly near the flowers. আমি ফুলগুলোর কাছে একটি প্রজাপতি দেখতে পাচ্ছি।
e. The flower —- sweet.
Ans. The flower smells sweet. ফুলটির গন্ধ মিষ্টি।
f. Murad —- to buy a dictionary.
Ans. Murad wants to buy a dictionary. মুরাদ একটি অভিধান কিনতে চায়।
A4. Read the passage below and choose which verb form is appropriate. Underline the word you choose. নিচের অনুচ্ছেদটি পড়ো এবং ক্রিয়ার সঠিক রূপটি বাছাই করো। তোমার নির্বাচিত শব্দের নিচে দাগ দাও।

Shikha Banu works/is working as a waitress in a restaurant in Chattogram. She takes orders and serves food to customers. But today, the chief cook has suddenly fallen ill. So, she helps/is helping the other cooks in the kitchen. She makes/is making ‘pudding’. She thinks/is thinking of her son, Priyam. How he loves/is loving pudding! She wants/is wanting to make a pudding for Priyam when she goes back home today. Suddenly she hears/is hearing someone says, “The pudding is done, apa. Shall I take it off the oven?” With a start Shikha Banu says/is saying, “Oh, yes. Please do.”
অনুবাদ: শিখা বানু চট্টগ্রামের একটি রেস্তোরাঁয় পরিচারিকার কাজ করেন। তিনি অর্ডার নেন এবং ক্রেতাদের খাবার পরিবেশন করেন। কিন্তু আজ, প্রধান বাবুর্চি হঠাৎ অসুস্থ হয়ে পড়েছেন। তাই, তিনি অন্য বাবুর্চিদের রান্নাঘরে সাহায্য করছেন। তিনি ‘পুডিং’ বানাচ্ছেন। তিনি তার ছেলে প্রিয়ামের কথা ভাবছেন। সে পুডিং কি পছন্দই না করে। তিনি আজ বাড়ি ফিরে প্রিয়ামের জন্যে একটি পুডিং বানাতে চান। হঠাৎ তিনি শুনতে পান কেউ একজন বলছেন, “পুডিং হয়ে গেছে, আপা। আমি কি এটি চুলা থেকে নামাবো?” চমকে ওঠে শিখা বানু বলেন, “ওহ্, হ্যাঁ। অনুগ্রহ করে নামান।”
