A. Read aloud and recite the poem. – কবিতাটি উচ্চৈঃস্বরে পড় এবং আবৃত্তি কর।
Leisure
What is this life if, full of care,
এ কেমন জীবন হবে যদি, কর্মব্যস্ততায় ভরা,
We have no time to stand and stare.
না থাকে অবকাশ খানিক দাঁড়িয়ে অপলক তাকাবার।
No time to stand beneath the boughs
নেই অবকাশ বৃক্ষশাখার নিচে দাঁড়াবার।
And stare as long as sheep or cows.
আর তাকাবার ভেড়া অথবা গরু যত দূরই হোক
No time to see, when woods we pass,
নেই অবকাশ দেখবার, অরণ্য অতিক্রমকালে,
Where squirrels hide their nuts in grass.
কাঠবিড়ালি ঘাসের নিচে কোথায় তার বাদাম লুকাল
No time to see, in broad day light,
নেই অবকাশ দেখবার, প্রকাশ্য দিবালোকে,
Streams full of stars, like skies at night.
নক্ষত্রে ভরা আকাশ, রাতের নদী।
A poor life this is if, full of care,
দুর্গত জীবন হবে যদি, কর্মব্যস্ততায় ভরা
We have no time to stand and stare.
না থাকে সময় খানিক দাঁড়িয়ে অপলক তাকাবার।

B. Make a list of the beautiful things the poet talks about in the poem. – কবি কবিতায় যেসব সুন্দর বিষয়গুলো নিয়ে আলোচনা করেছেন, সেগুলোর একটি তালিকা তৈরি করো।

i. boughs (বৃক্ষশাখা)
ii. sheep or cows (ভেড়া বা গরু)
iii. squirrel (কাঠবিড়ালি)
iv. woods (অরণ্য)
v. day light (দিবালোক)
vi. sky at night (রাতের আকাশ)
vii. streams etc. (নদী ইত্যাদি)
C. Read the poem, discuss in groups/pairs and write answers to these questions: – কবিতাটি পড়, দলবদ্ধভাবে/দুজন দুজন করে আলোচনা করো এবং এসব প্রশ্নের উত্তর দাও:
1. Why does the poet think that we have no time to stand and stare? – কেন কবি মনে করেন যে, আমাদের দাঁড়ানোর এবং স্থিরভাবে তাকানোর কোনো সময় নেই?
Ans. The poet thinks that we have no time to stand and stare because our life is full of care and anxiety. (কবি মনে করেন আমাদের দাঁড়ানোর এবং তাকানোর সময় নেই। কেননা, আমাদের জীবন কর্মব্যস্ততা ও দুশ্চিন্তায় ভরা।)
2. Do you think people often do not have time to enjoy the beauty of nature? Give reasons. – তুমি কি মনে করো মানুষের প্রায়ই প্রাকৃতিক সৌন্দর্য উপভোগ করার সময় থাকে না? কারণগুলো উল্লেখ কর।
Ans: Yes, I think people often don’t have time to enjoy the beauty of nature because their life is full of care and anxiety. (হ্যাঁ, আমি মনে করি মানুষের প্রায়ই প্রাকৃতিক সৌন্দর্য উপভোগ করার সময় থাকে না, কারণ তাদের জীবন কর্মব্যস্ততা ও দুশ্চিন্তায় ভরা থাকে।)
D. Suppose you are walking along a path through a wood. There are beautiful trees and flowers on either side of the path. What would you like to do? – ধর তুমি একটি বনের পাশ দিয়ে হেঁটে যাচ্ছ। পথের দু ধারে সুন্দর সুন্দর গাছ এবং ফুল রয়েছে। তুমি কী করতে চাইবে?
Ans. In this circumstance, I would stand there and enjoy the beauty of nature. (এ পরিস্থিতিতে আমি সেখানে দাঁড়িয়ে প্রাকৃতিক সৌন্দর্য উপভোগ করতাম।)
Develop Your Knowledge (তোমার জ্ঞান সমৃদ্ধ করো)
উদ্দেশ্য বা সম্ভাবনা বোঝাতে বাক্যে to infinitive অর্থাৎ to + base form of main verb ব্যবহার করো হয়। যেমন: to see, to stand to stand and stare. I will go there to see your project.
I told him to stand up.
Poem টির দ্বিতীয় অনুচ্ছেদে as long as এবং in broad day light শব্দগুচ্ছগুলো ব্যবহার করো হয়েছে।
as long as (যতক্ষণ পর্যন্ত): I will love my country as long as live.
In broad day light (প্রকাশ্য দিবালোকে): The owl cannot fly in broad day light.
