A: What do you see in the pictures? (ছবিতে তুমি কী দেখছো?)
B: In the left picture, I see a necklace. And in the right one, a woman is seen wearing this necklace. (বামপাশের ছবিতে আমি একটা মালা বা হার দেখতে পাচ্ছি। আর ডানপাশের ছবিতে একজন মহিলাকে সেই হারটা পরে থাকতে দেখছি।)
A: What do you think about the necklace? (হার/মালাটা সম্পর্কে তুমি কী মনে কর?)
B: I think the necklace is probably a pearl necklace. It looks really very nice. (আমার মনে হয় হারটা সম্ভবত মুক্তার। এটা আসলেই খুব সুন্দর।)

The ancient Egyptians valued pearls so much that they were buried with them. It is said that the famous queen of Egypt, Cleopatra would dissolve a pearl in a glass and drink it as a sign of love and respect for the entire nation.
প্রাচীন মিসরীয়রা মুক্তাকে এতো মূল্যবান মনে করতো যে তাদেরকে সমাহিত করার সময় তাদের সাথে মুক্তা দেয়া হতো। বলা হয়ে থাকে মিশরের বিখ্যাত রানী ক্লিওপেট্রা সমগ্র জাতির ভালোবাসা ও শ্রদ্ধার নিদর্শন হিসেবে গ্লাসে একটা মুক্তা মেশাতেন এবং তা পান করতেন।

In ancient Rome, pearls were considered the greatest sign of wealth and social status.

At that time the young women of noble families loved to wear beautiful pearl necklaces. The brave knights used to wear them in the battles for good luck.

Ans. Yes, I think so. Because people in ancient time would search food at the seashore. Probably they discovered pearl at that time. They did not know its value. With the passage of time the pearl became one of the most valuable gems. Ans. I think pearls were valued so much in the past because these have been mentioned many times in religious scriptures and mythologioes. Moreover, many historical events also prove this. (আমি মনে করি অতীতকালে মুক্তাকে অত্যন্ত মূল্যায়ন করা হতো এজন্য যে, অনেক ধর্মগ্রন্থ ও পৌরাণিক কাহিনীতে অনেকবার এগুলোর উল্লেখ আছে। তাছাড়া, অনেক ঐতিহাসিক ঘটনাও এর প্রমাণ।)
3. What good luck did the knights think pearls would bring them? (মুক্তা বীরযোদ্ধাদের কী সৌভাগ্য বয়ে আনবে বলে তারা মনে করত?)
Ans. The knights thought the pearls would bring them victory as good luck. (বীর যোদ্ধারা মনে করত মুক্তা তাদেরকে সৌভাগ্য হিসেবে বিজয় এনে দেবে।)
