Lesson 03: The Truthful Dove (3) – সত্যবাদী ঘুঘু (৩)
A. Look at the picture. (ছবিটির দিকে তাকাও।)
1. What do you see? (তুমি কী দেখতে পাচ্ছ?)
2. How do the three birds look? (পাখি তিনটিকে কেমন দেখাচ্ছে?)
3. Why do you think they look so? (তাদেরকে কেন এমন দেখাচ্ছে বলে তুমি মনে কর?)
4. Who looks very happy? Can you guess why? (কাকে খুবই সুখী মনে হচ্ছে? তুমি কি অনুমান করতে পার কেন?)
Ans.
1. I see two pictures. In the first picture, a bat and an owl together are sitting on a branch of a tree. They are looking at the dove. The dove is sitting on a branch alone. In the second picture, the dove is flying away, and the bat and the owl are looking at the dove. (আমি দুটি ছবি দেখছি। প্রথম ছবিতে একটি বাদুড় এবং একটি পেঁচা একত্রে একটি গাছের ডালে বসে আছে। তারা ঘুঘুটির দিকে তাকিয়ে আছে। ঘুঘু একাকী একটি ডালে বসে আছে। দ্বিতীয় ছবিতে ঘুঘু উড়ে চলে যাচ্ছে, আর বাদুড় এবং পেঁচা ঘুঘুর দিকে তাকিয়ে আছে।)
2. Here two birds look happy and the third one looks unhappy. (এখানে দুটি পাখিকে খুশি দেখাচ্ছে এবং তৃতীয়টিকে অসুখি দেখাচ্ছে।)
3. I think they look so because they are of different nature. (আমি মনে করি তাদের এমন দেখাচ্ছে কারণ তারা ভিন্ন প্রকৃতির।)
4. The bat looks very happy. Because, I think his purpose has been achieved. (বাদুড়কে খুব সুখি মনে হচ্ছে। কারণ, আমার মনে হয় তার উদ্দেশ্য সফল হয়েছে।)
B. Read more about the three birds and find out about their fate. Work in pairs and write the answers to the questions that follow. (পাখী তিনটি সম্পর্কে আরো পড় এবং তাদের নিয়তি অনুমান করার চেষ্টা কর। যুগ্মভাবে কাজ কর তারপর নিচের প্রশ্নগুলোর উত্তর দাও।)
“What?” cried the bat. “Is that all you have to say to our gracious host? Is he not the wisest, bravest and most generous of all animals and birds? Don’t you have praise for his noble character as well as for his goodness to us? I am ashamed of you! You do not deserve such hospitality. You do not deserve this shelter.”
বাদুড় চিৎকার করে উঠল, “কি? এটাই কি সব যা আমাদের উদার অতিথি সম্বন্দ্বে তোমার বলার আছে?” তিনি কি সকল পশু-পাখীদের মাঝে জ্ঞানী, সাহসী ও সবচেয়ে মহানুভব নন? তার মহৎ চরিত্র এবং আমাদের প্রতি অনুগ্রহের জন্য কি তোমার কোন প্রশংসা নেই? আমি তোমার জন্য লজ্জিত। তুমি এই আতিথেয়তার যোগ্য নও। তুমি এই আশ্রয়ের যোগ্য নও।”
“You are an ungrateful bird, and the bat is right. You do not deserve this generous hospitality which I have offered. Get out! Be off, I say!” said the owl.
“তুমি এক অকৃতজ্ঞ পাখি, এবং বাদুড়ই ঠিক। এই উদার আতিথেয়তা যা আমি প্রদান করেছি, তুমি তার যোগ্য নও। দূর হও! যাও, বলছি!” পেঁচা বলল।
“Yes, get lost!” echoed the bat, flapping his leathery wings. The two heartless creatures fell upon the poor little dove and drove her out into the dark and stormy night.
“হ্যাঁ, দূর হও।” বাদুড় তার চামড়ার ডানা ঝাপটে কণ্ঠ মেলাল। এবং দুই নিষ্ঠুর জীব বেচারা ছোট্ট ঘুঘুর ওপর ঝাপিয়ে পড়ল এবং অন্ধকার ঝড়ের রাতে তাকে বের করে দিল।
But the owl and the bat did not go unpunished for their act of heartlessness. The bat can never fly in broad daylight. He has to wait for the sun to go down. And do you know what happened to the vain owl? Well, he is blind as long as the sun is up. He cannot hunt or feed himself unless it is dark. So the two vicious creatures with their dark heart live in the dark.
কিন্তু সেই পেঁচা ও বাদুড় তাদের হৃদয়হীনতার জন্য শাস্তি এড়াতে পারল না। বাদুড় দিনের আলোতে উড়তে পারে না। সূর্য অস্ত যাওয়া পর্যন্ত তাকে অপেক্ষা করতে হয়। আর তোমরা কি জান সেই অহংকারী পেঁচার কী হয়েছিল? শোনো তাহলে, সূর্য যতক্ষণ থাকে ততক্ষণ তাকে অন্ধ থাকতে হয়। যতক্ষণ না রাত হয়, সে শিকার করতে বা নিজের খাদ্য জোগাতে পারে না। তাই সেই দুই দুষ্টু পাখি তাদের অন্ধকার হৃদয় নিয়ে অন্ধকারেই বাস করে।
On the other hand, the dove is rewarded for her truthfulness. Her name shall be used by poets as long as the world lasts to rhyme with “LOVE”.
পক্ষান্তরে/অপরদিকে, সত্যবাদীতার জন্য পুরস্কার দেওয়া হয়েছে। যতদিন পৃথিবীতে প্রেমের পদ্য থাকবে, তার নাম কবিরা ব্যবহার করবে।

Ans. The bat said that he was ashamed of the dove as he thought that the dove could not praise the owl properly. বাদুড় বলল যে সে ঘুঘুর কারণে লজ্জিত কারণ সে মনে করে যে ঘুঘু পেঁচাকে ভালোমত প্রশংসা করতে পারেনি।
2. Why was the owl angry with the dove? – পেঁচা কেন ঘুঘুর ওপর রাগান্বিত?
Ans. The owl was angry with the dove as he thought her ungrateful. পেঁচা ঘুঘুর ওপর রেগে গেল কারণ সে তাকে অকৃতজ্ঞ মনে করেছিল।
3. What did the owl and the bat do to the dove? – পেঁচা ও বাদুড় ঘুঘুকে কী করল?
Ans. The owl and the bat fell upon the dove and drove her out into the dark and stormy night. – পেঁচা ও বাদুড় ঘুঘুর ওপর ঝাঁপিয়ে পড়ল এবং অন্ধকার ঝড়ের রাতে তাকে তাড়িয়ে দিল।
4. How were the bat and the owl punished at the end? শেষ পর্যন্ত বাদুড় ও পেঁচা কিভাবে শাস্তি পেল?
Ans. The bat cannot fly at broad day light and the owl cannot hunt or feed himself unless it is dark. Thus the bat and the owl were punished at the end. – বাদুড় দিনে উড়তে পারে না এবং পেঁচা রাত না হওয়া পর্যন্ত শিকার করতে বা নিজের খাবার জোগাড় করতে পারে না। এভাবে বাদুড় ও পেঁচা শাস্তি পেল।
5. What reward did the dove get? ঘুঘু কী পুরস্কার পেল?
Ans. The dove’s name shall be used by poets as long as the world lasts to rhyme with “Love”. Thus the dove got reward. যতদিন পৃথিবীতে প্রেম/ভালবাসা থাকবে ততদিন কবিরা ঘুঘুর নাম ব্যবহার করবে। এভাবে ঘুঘু পুরস্কার পেল।
