A. Talk about the picture and read the story of the dove and the bat. (ছবিটি সম্পর্কে আলোচনা কর এবং ঘুঘু ও বাদুড়ের গল্পটি পড়।)
Talking about the picture:
In the picture, I see two birds flying in the sky. They are a bat and a dove. I think they are looking for something. (ছবিতে আমি দুটি পাখি উড়তে দেখছি। এদের একটি হলো বাদুড় ও অন্যটি ঘুঘু। আমরা মনে হয় তারা কিছু খুঁজছে।)
Once upon a time, a dove and a bat were very good friends. One day the two friends decided to set out on a journey. They flew over the rivers and hills and came to a big jungle. Both the friends were very tired, they needed to sit down and take a rest. Soon night fell and it was dark all around. A storm rose. It started to rain heavily. The dove and the bat started to look for a shelter.একদা এক ঘুঘু ও এক বাদুড় খুব ভালো বন্ধু ছিল। একদিন দুই বন্ধু কোথাও ভ্রমণের সিদ্ধান্ত নিল। তারা নদী ও পাহাড়ের ওপর দিয়ে উড়ে চলল ও এক ‘বড় জঙ্গলে এল। দুই বন্ধুই খুব ক্লান্ত হয়ে গিয়েছিল। তাদের বসার ও বিশ্রাম নেওয়ার প্রয়োজন হল। শীঘ্রই রাত হল এবং চারদিকে অন্ধকার হয়ে গেল। ঝড় উঠল। প্রচণ্ড বৃষ্টি শুরু হল। ঘুঘু ও বাদুড় আশ্রয় খোঁজা শুরু করল।
They came upon a century-old rain tree. An owl had his nest in that tree. The dove and the bat knocked at the owl’s door. The old grumpy owl opened the door. The dove and the bat requested him to give them shelter. The owl unwillingly let them in. The two birds were hungry too. They begged for some food. The selfish owl was not happy. However, he shared his dinner with them. The dove was so tired that she could hardly eat. But the bat was sly. He ate greedily. He began to praise the owl with the thought of getting more food. The bat said, “O wise and brave owl, you are the most generous person I have ever seen. You are powerful and mighty.”
তারা একটি শত বছরের পুরোনো রেইন-ট্রি গাছের কাছে এল। ঐ গাছে একটি পেঁচার বাসা ছিল। ঘুঘু ও বাদুড় পেঁচার দরজায় ধাক্কা দিল। বুড়ো বদমেজাজী পেঁচা দরজা খুলে দিল। ঘুঘু ও বাদুড় তাদেরকে আশ্রয় দেওয়ার জন্য অনুরোধ জানাল। পেঁচা অনিচ্ছুকভাবে তাদেরকে ভেতরে যেতে দিল। পাখি দুটো ক্ষুধার্তও ছিল। তারা কিছু খাবার চাইল। স্বার্থপর পেঁচাটি খুশি ছিল না। যা হোক, সে তার খাবার তাদের সাথে ভাগ করে নিল। ঘুঘু এতই ক্লান্ত ছিল যে সে খুব কমই খেতে পারল। কিন্তু বাদুড়টি ছিল ধূর্ত। সে লোভীর মত সব খেয়ে ফেলল। আরও খাবার পাওয়ার আশায় সে পেঁচার প্রশংসা করতে লাগল। বাদুড় বলল, “হে জ্ঞানী ও সাহসী পেঁচা, আপনিই আমার দেখা সবচেয়ে মহানুভব ব্যক্তি। আপনি ক্ষমতাধর ও শক্তিশালী।”
The owl was very pleased at the bat’s flattery. He puffed and ruffled himself, trying to look as wise and brave as possible. Then he turned to the dove and asked, “Now little dove, what do you think about me?”
বাদুড়ের চাটুকারিতায় পেঁচা খুবই খুশি হল। নিজেকে যতটা সম্ভব জ্ঞানী ও সাহসী দেখানোর জন্য সে জোড়ে জোড়ে নিশ্বাস নিতে লাগল এবং চুল/পালক ঠিক করতে লাগলো। এবার সে ঘুঘুর দিকে ঘুরল এবং জিজ্ঞেস করল, “তো ছোট্ট ঘুঘু, আমার সম্পর্কে তোমার ধারণা কী?”
B. Ask and answer the following questions. (এরার নিচের প্রশ্নগুলো জিজ্ঞাসা কর এবং উত্তর দাও।)
1. Who were the two good friends? (কারা দু’জন ভালো বন্ধু ছিল?)
Ans. The two good friends were the dove and the bat. (ঘুঘু ও বাদুড় ছিল ভালো দু’জন বন্ধু।)
2. What did they decide to do? (তারা কী করার সিদ্ধান্ত নিল?)
Ans. They decided to set out on a journey: (তারা ভ্রমণ করার সিদ্ধান্ত নিল।)
3. Why were they tired? (তারা কেন ক্লান্ত ছিল?)
Ans. They were tired because they flew over many places like rivers, hills etc. (তারা ক্লান্ত ছিল কারণ তারা নদী, পাহাড় এরকম অনেক জায়গার ওপর দিয়ে উড়েছিল।)
4. Why did they look for a shelter? (তারা কেন আশ্রয় খুঁজছিল?)
Ans. They looked for shelter to protect themselves from storm and rain. (ঝড় ও বৃষ্টি থেকে নিজেদেরকে রক্ষা করতে তারা আশ্রয় খুঁজছিল।)
5. Where did the dove and the bat come? (ঘুঘু ও বাদুড় কোথায় এল?)
Ans. The dove and the bat came to a big jungle. (ঘুঘু ও বাদুড় এক বড় জঙ্গলে এল।)
6. Whose nest was there on the tree? (গাছের ওপর কার বাসা ছিল?)
Ans. On the tree there was a nest of an owl. (গাছের উপর একটি পেঁচার বাসা ছিল।)
7. Which words tell you that the owl was not good at heart? (কোন শব্দগুলোতে তোমার মনে হয় যে, পেঁচা মনের দিক থেকে ভালো ছিল না?)
Ans. ‘Grumpy’, ‘selfish’ these words show that the owl was not good at heart. (বদমেজাজী, স্বার্থপর ইত্যাদি শব্দ থেকে বুঝা যায় যে পেঁচাটি মনের দিকে থেকে ভালো ছিল না।)
8. Why couldn’t the dove eat? (ঘুঘু খেতে পারল না কেন?)
Ans. The dove could not eat as it was so tired. (ঘুঘুটি খেতে পারল না কারণ এটি খুব ক্লান্ত ছিল।)
9. Why did the bat praise the owl? (বাদুড় কেন পেঁচার প্রশংসা করল?)
Ans. The bat praised the owl to get more food. (আরও খাবার পাওয়ার আশায় বাদুড় পেঁচার প্রশংসা করল।)
10. Which words pleased the owl? (কোন কথাটি পেঁচাকে খুশি করল?)
Ans. The bat called the owl wise, brave, most generous, powerful and mighty. These words pleased the owl. (বাদুড় পেঁচাকে জ্ঞানী, সাহসী, সবচেয়ে মহানুভব, ক্ষমতাধর ও শক্তিশালী বলেছিল। এই কথাগুলো পেঁচাকে খুব খুশি করল।)
11. What action of the owl tells you that he wanted to hear more good things about him? (পেঁচার কোন কাজটিতে তোমার মনে হয় যে সে তার সম্পর্কে আরও ভালো জিনিস শুনতে চেয়েছিল?)
Ans. The owl puffed and ruffled himself which proves that he wanted to hear more good things about him. (পেঁচা জোরে জোরে নিশ্বাস নিতে লাগল ও পালক/চুল ঠিক করতে লাগল যা প্রমাণ করে যে, সে নিজের সম্পর্কে আরো বেশি ভালো কিছু শুনতে চেয়েছিল।)
